A jungle out there
The garden has been full of activity. Wildlife and plants. Insects and mammals.
A very busy week for all. Two fun and fascinating garden events to watch this week -
A large crow swooped down to nab a giant , hardened piece of bread. It was hard as a rock.
So she walked to the small, ground level bird bath and dunked it. Tested it to make sure it was palatable. Not yet soft enough, she flung it into the bird bath and poked at it until it was just right. She flung it in the air , caught it and enjoyed the tasty bite.
The second garden event has been discovery of the foxes. I think I have two young ones prancing around. I say I think there are two - but it could be just one really fast guy.
I leave an egg out every night and it's gone in the morning. No shell. If I leave it too early, you know who, of dunking fame, comes down and makes a mess of it leaving the shells all over the terrace.
The fox drinks from the dog dish outside on the back porch. I get enormous satisfaction sponsoring these yard parties. A book I enjoy reading is
Suburban Safari. It's all about the wonders of the backyard.
I just pick it up and read .
Have you heard that the cause of the hoey bee problem could be related to the use of systemic weed killers - like round up. I better do some research on that. I use that stuff on bind weed.
I planted mint near the hose. It's something my grandmother taught me to do. You can't hurt the mint when you drag the hose over it and it smells so nice.

I had lunch with a friend, David Rubenstein, from college yesterday. Let's see - last time we saw each other, probably on campus, the Viet Nam war was still going on...
It was grand to have somebody ask me questions and for me to search my mind and fill in the blanks.Wait a min, that didn't come out right did it? And it was marvelous to hear his life story. He has been one busy guy.
Happy and charming David has had a wonderful life with a solid career and in addition, found love. What more do you need?
David is an animated talker - so I didn't do justice to his questions.I don't think I bored him, um well, maybe! I'm out of practice! Gotta get out more and talk to people!
I once had a friend who, very briefly, did some interviews for Vanity Fair and Wired.
He said it was so difficult and he challenged me to interview him. He was right. Very difficult. It's easy to ask questions and give a single line response. It's another to get a full and luscious answer. Not that everyone has luscious to speak - but you know what I mean.
I asked David if he felt his age. No, he didn't. He's a baby, not even 60 yet! I find that so interesting. I don't think any of my friends feel their age. Is this the Mick Jagger/Cher syndrome?
